INTERVET/SCHERING-PLOUGH ANIMAL HEALTH HELPS ANIMAL SHELTERS WHEN CONSUMERS ENROLL PETS IN HOMEAGAIN® MICROCHIP PROGRAM

As Part of Be Kind to Animals Week® Company Will Deliver Funds Using Fundraising Web Site; Online Shopping Venue Enables Animal Lovers to Help Shelter Animals Through Purchases

Roseland, N.J., May 5, 2009 – In support of the American Humane Association's Be Kind to Animals Week, this week, May 3-9, Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health's HomeAgain Pet Recovery Service (www.homeagain.com) is making a $1 donation to animal shelters for each pet enrolled in its microchipping program during this timeframe. All funds raised are being channeled to the shelters via the fundraising Web site www.bringpetshome.com.

Celebrated every year since 1915, American Humane's Be Kind to Animals Week is an annual tradition commemorating the role animals play in people's lives. "While this week is celebrated once per year, the American Humane Association encourages compassion for animals every day," said Gary MacPhee, Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health, Director, HomeAgain Business Unit. "This includes keeping them healthy and safe with up-to-date vaccinations, regular veterinary care and proper identification."

Even the most responsible pet owners can become accidentally or unexpectedly separated from their pets. Microchipping a pet—a permanent form of pet identification—and enrolling the microchip number into a nationwide pet recovery service gives him the best chance of being reunited with his owner if lost.

"With summer storm season upon us and many families preparing to travel, now is a perfect time to microchip our pets and enroll them in a comprehensive pet recovery program like HomeAgain. Enrolling your pet's microchip in the HomeAgain service during Be Kind to Animals Week will also help a shelter pet while protecting your own," MacPhee said.

In celebration of Be Kind to Animals Week, pet owners are encouraged to:

  • Take their pets to a veterinarian to be microchipped and enrolled in HomeAgain;
  • If their pets are already microchipped, simply enroll them online at: www.homeagain.com. Any brand of microchip may be enrolled.

HomeAgain is a national pet recovery service that goes beyond microchipping. Once enrolled, a pet's microchip will be registered in the HomeAgain National Pet Recovery Database for its lifetime. In addition, the annual HomeAgain membership includes:

  • Live Pet Recovery Specialists always available at 1-888-HomeAgain
  • Lost Pet Alerts with a Lost Pet Poster sent to veterinary clinics, shelters and PetRescuers
  • 24/7 Emergency Medical Telephone Assistance
  • Medical Insurance for Lost Dogs or Cats, up to $3,000 (less a $50 deductible) offered by PetFirst Healthcare
  • Travel expenses of up to $500 for pets found more than 500 miles from home

HomeAgain memberships are renewable annually for a fee of $14.99.

BRING PETS HOME is a not-for-profit animal charity that raises money to help animals in shelters across the country. Its mission is to support shelters' tireless efforts to provide care for pets in need—until they find loving homes or are reunited with their original owners. All money raised through purchases made at the online retailers through the bringpetshome.com Web site will go directly to provide food, shelter and medical treatment to pets in need. All operating costs of BRING PETS HOME are covered by corporate donations. There is no additional cost to the consumer.

Interviews are available with HomeAgain pet identification experts, as well as local veterinarians in your area, who can discuss the importance of permanent identification for pets and the critical step of enrolling the microchip number with the pet owner's contact information in a national database to help ensure that pets can be reunited with their owners — including following natural disasters such as hurricanes or tornados.
