PET CAT LOST IN SEATTLE REUNITES WITH OWNER NINE MONTHS LATER AS A RESULT OF MICROCHIP TECHNOLOGY
HomeAgain®'s Pet Recovery Service Leads to a Happy Ending for a Cat Owner and His Missing Companion
Roseland, NJ, March 5, 2009 – A cat missing for nine months will leave Seattle this morning for her new home in Tucson, Ariz., as a result from Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health's HomeAgain® Pet Recovery Service. This fortunate feline will arrive at the Tucson International Airport at 1:46 p.m. MST on US Airways flight #2823.
The story began in July 2008, when a four-year-old, white and calico cat aptly named "RV" went on a road trip of her own as her owner Ken Gold prepared to relocate from the great northwest to Tucson. Despite delaying his departure for a day to search for the missing cat, RV was nowhere to be found and did not return. As a result, the owner had to move without her and rely on the cat's own instincts for survival and a HomeAgain microchip implanted by RV's veterinarian when hoping for a safe return.
Nearly nine months later, a concerned citizen had found RV and called the King County Animal Care and Control. After quickly locating the cat's HomeAgain microchip, Sgt. Brenda Dyrdahl, acting shelter supervisor, said they were able to locate RV in the database, reach out to the owner and begin the process of reuniting the cat with her family.
"We find using microchips extremely valuable in our line of work," said Dyrdahl. "This is the perfect example of why a pet owner should consider using this type of service and keep their contact information up to date. Microchipping doesn't locate every animal, but it keeps hope alive and makes miracles happen."
HomeAgain is a national and comprehensive pet recovery service that goes beyond microchipping. For an annual subscription fee of $14.99, HomeAgain members benefit from world-class pet recovery services and other services designed to keep pets safe and well, including:

- 24/7 Emergency Medical Telephone Assistance
- Medical Insurance up to $3,000 for Lost Pets, offered by PetFirst Healthcare

One in three pets will become lost during its lifetime. According to the American Humane Association, only about 17 percent of lost dogs and 2 percent of lost cats ever find their way back home. Microchipping is a permanent form of identification that cannot fall off or become impossible to read. When used as part of standard veterinary care, it gives pets the best chance of being reunited with their owners when lost.
