DOG FOUND IN SEATTLE REUNITING WITH OREGON FAMILY THANKS TO MICROCHIP TECHNOLOGY

HomeAgain® Pet Recovery Service Leads to a Happy Ending for Lab “Gypsy” and Her Oregon Family

Roseland, NJ, Oct. 8, 2009 – A Labrador retriever missing since late September left Seattle early today for a trip home to Oregon as a result of the HomeAgain Pet Recovery Service. The lucky dog, Gypsy, will arrive at Boise Airport on Alaska Air flight #2136 at 10:25 a.m. local time where she will be reunited with her family before traveling onward in the family vehicle to their home 90 miles away in Huntington, Oregon.

Exactly how Gypsy wound up in Seattle is a mystery but her owners theorize that a motorist passing by their farm was attracted to her friendly nature. There is a highway near the farm of Emily McPherson and her husband Steve Reynolds, and Gypsy frequently romps around the fields of potatoes, corn and hay.

McPherson and her three children, ages 11, six and two, are traveling to Boise – the closest airport to their home – to retrieve Gypsy. “Our children are beyond excited and I’m letting them skip school to get their doggy back,” said McPherson. “When we got the call that Gypsy had been found my reaction was ‘Holy cow! My dog’s where?’”

Fortunately, Gypsy, a two-year-old black lab with white markings, had been microchipped and her owners took the important step of registering the microchip in the HomeAgain’s national database. Gypsy was found in a Seattle park by a Good Samaritan who brought her to the Auburn South Veterinary Hospital. The dog was scanned for a microchip and the chip was found. A call was made to Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health’s HomeAgain, which identified the dog’s owner and contacted McPherson in Oregon. The clinic’s office manager, Janet Pryor, personally delivered the dog to the Seattle airport. The cost of Gypsy’s flight home was covered by HomeAgain through the Travel Assistance for Found Pets benefit of HomeAgain membership.
